Justin:
In order to hear the Motif signal coming into your tascam, you will need to insert an audio track into Sonar, select the tascam inputs you have the Motif connected into, and then turn the input echo on and or arm the track using control-a. However, this should be done only when you want to record your midi track into an audio track. If you only want to record your midi tracks for now, you should have your motif audio outputs, and also your Tascam audio out puts connected to an external mixer so that you can hear everything together. Then, once you are ready to convert your midi tracks into audio, you will connect the Motif's audio out puts into your Tascam and record it into an audio track in Sonar.

Subject: [ddots-l] Newby question on MIDI

OK, please don't cringe in fear, hopefully this will be relatively painless for you guys. As it was stated in the subject, I'm most definitely a newby slowly working my way around Sonar. Heres the deal. I'm running Sonar 8.5.3 with CakeTalking 8.5 scripts. I've been having no issues with soft synths, but, as you might guess, I'm running into a little snag with regards to getting everything to work right with MIDI and external gear. My sound card, which is sadly a Tascam US122MKII, is receiving the MIDI signal from my controller, and I have the MIDI input set to the Tascam MIDI in, and the output set to the Tascam Midi out. I have the MIDI cable running to my Motif. The audio out of the Motif is running back to the Tascam line in ports. The problem is that I am not hearing the signal coming in from the Motif. I plugged my headphones into the Motif to make sure it was receiving signal, and all was well there. I think that covers it. Feeling a bit fried right now. I'm sure I'm missing something very stupid, but haven't been able to suss it out just yet. And, if you want to point me to the tutorial, I have spent a good while with it, so if there's a point made there, I am apparently not grasping it...
Thanks for any help, and thanks for your patience.
