Thanks for the tip about the Motif. I haven't tried it yet but have a can
of compressed air for just such tasks. As for the SY-77 and MIDI Sport: I
could just about sware to it that I had done this already. However, I tried
several solutions back-to-back and my sighted daughter is not patient enough
to help dear ol' Dad, even at 22 years old. I tried the Through button
before and likely did not have the cable plugged in correctly. I tried the
button today and, at first, it did not make a difference. I then plugged
the cable into the other MIDI-in on the MIDI Sport and Sha zamm! It works
fine now! I just have to load a disk on the SY-77 before use so it
remembers what it is.
I hope the dust theory works, as I use a wheelchair and have my Motif on the
bottom of a 2-tier stand. If it doesn't work, I will have to get muscle to
switch the two Keyboards. I'll let you know and will not be so lengthy next
time.

Which midi sport do you have? The anniv edition? If so there's a firmware
update that resolves some latency issues. I had encountered this a few years
back.
Your motif is probably not damaged, it probably has dust inside the keyboard
bed or perhaps small filaments which are making bad contacts.

This is somewhat long. I will make it as short as I can.
My Yamaha Motif XF6 appears to have developed a short or something in three
or possibly more keys. Sometimes, I hit one of them hard and get little
response, while other times, I will bearly touch a key and it sounds as if I
struck it hard. The Motif is two and a half years old and is no longer
under any sort of warranty. Now for my issue:
I have an Yamaha SY-77 which is now almost 25 years old and has only
required a repair to the disk drive and is in need of a system battery. I
have it connected to Sonar via a MIDI Sport 2x2 box. I have set the input
on all MIDI tracks to the MIDI Sport. When I hit a key on the SY-77, there
is an almost three-second delay before the soft synth I am using produces
sound. Any thoughts on settings I might check and change? This just
supports the common belief that, "They don't make things like they used to."
I love the Motif but the SY-77 has gone through three moves and lots of
performances in its early days and it hasn't died yet!
Any help is greatly appreciated.
