Step recording doesn't need quantizing because the notes are entered to precise values. The 8th note is entered as an 8th note etc. Quantizing is for when you are playing live and need to have your notes alined to the grid and set at their proper lengths, since we can not play as prcisely as a computer can, down to the tick. There are other uses for quantizing such as adding feel and off-setting stuff, but that's the basic of it. I tried step recording a two bar pattern of eighth notes, and it went fairly well. I left everything at default in the dialog. How do I incorporate a step recording in to a MIDI project where the MIDI is imported from another file? Does this involve quantizing the step recorded track? Does quantizing happen while step record is happening, or do I need to do it afterward? Are there any step record dos and don'ts that you can share that aren't discussed in the lesson from the manual? Thanks, Dani
