You don't need that now. Most DAWs do sound replacement. You record a drum on to it's own track. Then the sound replacement feature listens for when some sound happens on that track, and either drops in sounds on another track at the same exact times, or else puts MIDI notes on the second track that you can direct to a softsynth or MIDI module to produce the new sound. You can close-mic a kick and a snare, gate them real tight to get rid of all of the other drums in the kit, and then use sound replacement to generate another track with kick or snares coming from a softsynth. Some people layer the real and synth sounds together, while others just replace the real sounds alltogether with synth sounds. You can use Audiosnap in Sonar to produce MIDI notes that are in the exact same time with an audio source, like a snare. Look at the AudioSnap chapter in the tutorial. I dont know how it will work. Years back somebody made trigger microphones to tape on normal drums. They triggered a midi signal thru a converter. Dont know if they still around. Take care!
