So if I wanted to integrate with pt, this would be the way to go? How bad is
the sonar support? If I was to go strictly sonar, would you recommend this
one, or something else? What others are worth looking at? I'm after at least
12 to 16 channels, and a good noise floor, and possibly some good enough
preamps for laying down a few tracks of vocals/instruments if need be. I've
heard great things about the fw1884, but I've heard and sort of had
experience with the tascam preamps to know that they're not top quality;
well at leas on my cheap us122 they weren't. But I guess you can't get it
all in one package lol. Later on this year I'll be upgrading from my
faithfull delta1010lt as it's really leaving me behind in terms of I/O, so
I'm starting my research early. Not sure if I should go for a control
surface or if I'd be better off with an audio interface and some sort of
separate controller desk on the side.

It is better built than the FW1884, but the control panel's accessibility,
and its Sonar support, are worse.

If you want to use Sonar and Pro Tools with the same surface, though, you
need to use the ProjectMix. I haven't found anything else that works well
with both.

Hey Bryan, I've been hearing about the project mix, what are your thoughts
on it?

Sorry, I can't help. The V-Studio was kind of out of my budget. It really
annoyed me that, as a Cakewalk user going all the way back to the Pro Audio
days, they were basically going to make me re-buy Sonar Producer. Plus, the
package included features that I don't need. Who in their right mind,
building a huge modern DAW, would think that paying big bucks for a
unexpandable module version of the Roland Fantom would be a good idea? I'm
trying to get *away* from hardware synths. The last thing that I want to do
right now in Sonar is spend time tracking in external hardware synths. So,
re-buy Sonar Producer (which I already own), and get a crippled Fantom XR
(which I don't need), all for the insane price of more than $4,000. I'll
pass. I could have bought an FW1884, a real Fantom XR, and saved over a
thousand bucks.

Plus, I needed something that was Pro Tools compatible, and the Cakewalk
stuff isn't. I ended up getting a ProjectMix. I got a good deal on mine,
but, even if you paid retail, you can get them for around $1,400.

Cakewalk was smoking something really good when they dreamed up and priced
the V-Studio stuff. Hardly anyone wants a crippled Fantom XR module, but I
think they had to put that in so that Roland could make some money off of
the V-Studio. I don't know what the deal was with forcing Sonar customers to
re-buy Sonar, though. The whole thing just seemed pretty insulting to me.

Hi Lenn!

I am using the V100 as a console for 8.5 it works but at the moment i have
som slider volume control problems. I have never used it together with the
V100 software, so i do not know how it works as a complete product. I hope
to make more use of the input section controle options. There is a pan and
gain and also controls for reverb and compressor on the console. But so far
i have not managed to make it work. Infact i hope Bryan may be reading this
notice and have some idears. there is only one driver for the V100 and it
seems not to be working perfectly with Sonar 8.5 So any ideers will be
grate.

But as a soundcard it works very well and have possible 4 tracks in and out.

Take care!

Dennis
