I have found that the best way to go for me is to take the Telly sample from
sonivox and really compress it. I have the original sound font version
which I converted to SFZ so that I could widen the pitch bend range. I have
never heard what I would call a convincing pedal steel sound. Back in the
day I used to synthesize one on the synclavier using FM and that was pretty
good. My firends used to call me Gordon LEE.
