Thanks for the extra info. Given your need to work with song building in a
loop/pattern form, I'd say try and find the MoXF6. It use to go fro about
1000-1100, it is 61 key, feels very good to play, sounds are good IMO, and the
pattern sequencer will let you do just that, use loops and create songs in
sections for live use either solo or with a band. I've used the pattern
function extensively as a gigging musician and solo performer and can tell you
it works great once you learn to use it and develop a workflow. It's one of
the reasons I'm still holding on to my motif XF lol.
Hopefully some of the other keys guys on list can give you feedback about
Roland and Korg offerings in that price range, I've only use a few Korg synths,
but nothing recent, and Roland was always the lower-end arrangers that I owned
way back when. I almost owned a Phantom XR, but didn't get that lucky lol.

In answer to DJX's questions.
Budget: The Roland VR-09 is about a grand, I'd like to not go too much higher
if I don't have to.
Number of keys: 61 or more
Action: Unweighted would be my first choice
Speakers: Not needed, I have all the amp & headphone resources I need.
Brand: I'm not married to a single brand, but I definitely want samples that
sound as natural as possible. One of the reasons I like the Roland is because
their engines are usually top notch, but I am open to other choices.
Application: I envision using this both as a solo performer building songs
with loops, layers and splits, but also playing as a member of a band.
Thanks,
JIm
