Do a search on youtube.
Search for pianos keyboards under $1000.
You will spend hours listening to these video demos.
There is such a vast amount of instruments that are available today.
When you find something that is interesting to you, go to kraftmusic.com
Do a search.
If you find it on kraftmusic Open the details link.
Look for the specs and open it.
It will tell you a lot about the item, such a features, dimensions and weight.
Here are some of my favorite picks.
I own this one, Yamaha DGX660, $700.
Sold this one back in February, Yamaha P125 88 keys $700.
I played this one in store, Roland fp30 $700, excellent.
I played this in store, Kawai ES110 $700 excellent.
Amazon special, Yamaha P71 88 keys $400.
Just a note here, the main piano on the P71 is sampled from Yamaha's 9 foot CFX console grand.

It pays to research.
We all are different and only you know what you want in an instrument.
However, what ever you purchase, buy from a store who has a great return policy such as kraftmusic.com sweetwater.com or samash.com.
You can return it if you are not satisfied.
Below are the instrument I presently own.
If I can help anyone on the list with the following models.
Yamaha DGX660, Roland RD2000, Yamaha Tyros5, Yamaha PSRS900, Yamaha Genos and the Korg PA4x.
I am considering purchasing the Kawai ES920, which was release just this year.

In answer to DJX's questions.

Budget: The Roland VR-09 is about a grand, I'd like to not go too much higher if I don't have to.

Number of keys: 61 or more

Action: Unweighted would be my first choice

Speakers: Not needed, I have all the amp & headphone resources I need.

Brand: I'm not married to a single brand, but I definitely want samples that sound as natural as possible. One of the reasons I like the Roland is because their engines are usually top notch, but I am open to other choices.

Application: I envision using this both as a solo performer building songs with loops, layers and splits, but also playing as a member of a band.

Thanks,
JIm
