Mike, here is the update sequence from Sonar 8.3.

You should have Jaws 11 (latest build). You can load it before or after Sonar.

You should upgrade Sonar to 8.5. This involves installing the Sonar program disk and the new Dimension Pro disk. Finally, load the Sonar Content disk. You do not need to load the BeatScape disk.

Next, install the patches to update Sonar: the 8.52 patch, and the 8.53 patch.

Once Sonar is updated to 8.53, you should install CakeTalking 8.5. The CakeTalking installer modifies Sonar settings and installs Jaws scripts, so it is important that CakeTalking be installed last (after Jaws 11 and Sonar are ready to go).

Hey Bry!

Thanx for the heads-up!

I use Audio Snap a lot, so, it looks like 8.5 should do the trick nicely!

Please could you tell me the order in which the updates must be installed?

I remember a lot of talk, re: problems for some who didn't follow the
correct installation protocol...

8.5 is definitely better for audio people than 8.3. Besides the additional
64-bit combination effects that come with Sonar 8.5, AudioSnap is far more
stable than it used to be.

The key to having a good experience with CakeTalking is to be sure to use
only the software version combinations that have been tested. Due to slight differences with how different versions of Jaws behave, and, in some cases,
bugs that CakeTalking must work around, CakeTalking is highly sensitive to
changes in the Jaws version, in particular. I'm not saying that it isn't
possible to use CakeTalking 8.5 with Jaws 10 on Windows 7, but, if you do,
you may find gotchas where CakeTalking is sluggish, where certain commands
are slow or don't work at all, or where incorrect information is reported.

For CakeTalking 8.3 and 8.5 users, Jaws 11 is suggested on all versions of
Windows. Again, you could use Jaws versions as old as 10 on Windows 7, Jaws
8 on Vista, and Jaws 7.1 on XP, but you really should use 11. Jaws 11 has
been extensively tested with CT, and is known to work well (that is, we
account for all of the qwerks in Jaws 11 :)).

Hey Nickus!

Thanx for the advice...

I don't use any soft synths, so its probably best staying with 8.3!

I'm still using JAWS v8 on this DAW, although I do have JAWS 13, I know my
current set-up worx great so I'll stay with it!

Thanx again!

I updated to 8.5 the other day and personally I prefer 8.3 it's as if
some stuff just doesn't happen smoothly anymore, not in terms of sound
or instrument quality but in terms of working with sonar. it could
also maybe be because I now also have jaws 13 but I'm not sure. I
don't know if it's possible to go back down to 8.3 but if it's
possible I'm going back down. I would say try it maybe it's just my
imagination and if you use a lot of soft synths 8.5 would be better in
terms of quality but if you mostly only use audio like I do, then I
don't see any point in 8.5 if you have 8.3. Oh one more thing if you
update, make sure you update to 8.5.3 the latest version otherwise
things like the track inspector won't work.

I've had v8.5 for over a year, but v8.3 worx so well for me so I'm
reluctant
to update...

Thanx for any assist...
