The only thing I can say is that maybe it wasn't Nero burning ram. Maybe it
was Nero essentials or Nero express. It was completely inaccessible and not
even the Jaws cursor would give me feedback.

ok i'm really confused now. You find Nero 10 to be "completely
inaccessible"? That's the version I have, and it seems to work fine.
The Wizard opens when I launch it, and I just tab and shift+tab around
filling things in and making selections, switching tabs to fill other things
in etc.
Adding files to compilations is as easy as copying and pasting, with the
standard Windows keystrokes. ON the list of tracks to be burned,
control+enter opens properties, where I can edit track and title info,
change pause length etc.
