Correct about Mackie protocol. From what I here the fader port is a
good option for use in Pro Tools and it's cheaper than Avid stuff.

If I am not mistaken, protools does not support the Mackie protocol.
Protools supports Hui and another proprietary protocol, which is used
by the avid stuff. The x-touch has a hui mode, but I heard it is limited.
A quick google search will hopefully yield more helpful answers.
