flash disk and flash drive are the same thing.

In order to save as a MIDI file, instead of a normal Motif song, you must change the type control on the save screen of the Motif's file mode. You'll need sighted help with that.

Easiest way is to, on the Motif, switch to the song that you'd like to save, press file, and then change the type to MIDI. All of the other controls will already be set to save the current song.

The easiest way to get a Motif song in to Sonar is to, on the Motif, save the song or pattern as a MIDI file on a flash disk. Then, you can load that file in to Sonar, and perform what-ever edits you need.

Recording the raw MIDI from the Motif to to Sonar requires a huge amount of setup, and doesn't produce a 100% accurate recording. If you must do it this way, here are some pointers:

Except for a few special situations, Sonar doesn't work well as a MIDI slave device. So, it isn't possible for Sonar to follow the Motif's timing. You'll need to have the Motif follow Sonar.

First, Sonar must send clock signal. Those options are on the MIDI out page of project options. You need Sonar to send MIDI clock, as well as start/stop messages (which are basically sequencer control messages).

Now, you need to make the Motif follow Sonar. On the Motif, in utility mode, on the F5 (midi) screen, press SF2, and set clock source to external, and sequencer control to "in".

In Sonar, you need to add MIDI tracks for each channel that you want to record from the Motif (up to 16). You'll need to change the input setting for each track from omni to a specific MIDI channel.

Once you're setup in Sonar, switch to the desired song or pattern on the Motif, and press record in Sonar. Sonar will send a start command to the Motif, and the Motif will play the song/pattern back at the same speed that Sonar records. The tempo of Sonar won't necessarily be the same as the original tempo of your Motif song/pattern, so, once the song/pattern is recorded in to Sonar, you'll need to adjust the Snar project tempo to an appropriate value.

Also, even though timing will be fairly close this way, it won't be perfect. Notes will still be several ticks off from their correct locations. That's just how this sort of recording goes.

That's why I say that its best to transfer music data as MIDI.

Subject: [ddots-l] Two questions

High all. I have two questions. I have some tracks that i've done on my motif and i wanted to do the drums over in sonar. I was wondering if there was a way to sink the metrinom with a audio project. And my second question is how do you save changes to the settings in sonar. I want the metrinom to give me 2 measures and i don't want to have to set this up every time i start a new project PLEASE READ THIS FOOTER AT LEAST ONCE!
