I'm surprised he wasn't recording through his own sound, be it through a modelling plug-in like Guitar Rig or an amp plus microphone. Did he record himself clean and then you processed it through Guitar Rig?
I would have sent you two tracks, one processed to what I think is a good guitar tone for the material, another track totally dry in case you want to re-amp it through Guitar Rig or similar.
