that seems to have been always the case with higher levels of Windows, and
that's all I can find myself too.
I personally always buy the higher leves of windows, I find that they function
better, in that you can upgrade the memory to the max.

Think I have the answer. Looks like you will have some constraints with
regard to how much ram and physical processors you can run in a system that has
Home versions. E.G, you can run a core duo or, a single quadcore on those
versions but, you can't run multiple quadcores on them as they don't allow
that. Guess it's going to be Professional more likely to be Ultimate for me as
if I have read this correctly, you can only run up to 16GB of RAM in a 64 bit
environment where as in Premium, you can run up to 192GB. More info over on:

Note: you may have to click on the link that says something like image to
enter the page. It's worth a read though as it's a fairly comprehensive
comparison of all of the various flavours of Windows 7.

What I want to know, is what are the differences between Home, Professional
and Ultimate. Especially for DAW users?

does anyone know. I haven't been able to find any real clear information
on the differences in the flavors.

From what I have read and from hwat i have heard from JFW users, Windos 7
will be a good option for us.

        Phil,
Thank you so much for those articles. Although, I'm not outside the
USA, I like to keep up with these developments. I can't wait to see if Windows
7 will redeem Vista the way X.P. redeemed M.E.
Windows Vista, aka "mojave" "longhorn" et al., has a long and
checkered past and I have been lucky enough to be able to wait it out and jump
the gulf from X.P. directly to 7. I hope the wait hasn't been needless; if 7
bites the dust, I may have to just go back to Amiga Workbench and Fred Fish.
(Just kidding, but I may go Linux!)

          Worth a read:

http://www.reuters.com/article/technologyNews/idUSTRE55O2YT20090625?sp=true

And it looks like Microsoft are having a bit of a spat with European
regulators which could result in us not being able to purchase a Windows
upgrade or, we could end up with a version of Windows in Europe that ships
without Internet Explorer. If you live in Europe then, you will want to read
this one:

Hmm, I wonder how much the OEM version will cost?
