Hello Brian,

I just reread your question and I would add I would have your voice on
one audio track and the sound bed on another.

Here is what I would do

1. Open a sonar project and delete all tracks. To do this press control
enter 3 times to select tracks and then press control I; choose 8 from
the list of options to delete all the tracks.

2. Pres alt I and then a to insert an audio track. This will become your
first track on the project.

3. Repeat step 2 above to make your second audio track.

4. Go to your first track and select this track by pressing alt enter,
and then pres alt f then I to import your audio file.

5. Do the same step above for track 2 and import your sound bed.

6. Play your project and if need be adjust your volume levels for the
voice and sound bed respectively.

7. Once you like how the volume is set for both tracks, you are ready to
automate your volume changes.

8. If you want to do a fade out for the sound bed when the voice begins,
go to your volume control of your sound bed and pres your application
key located immediately to the left of your control key. Down arrow to
write automation and press enter to check it.

9. Keep Sonar’s focus on the volume control for your sound bed track
and while playing the project lower the volume of your sound bed until
the voice is left alone, or you can leave it playing softly in the
background if you wish.

10. You can play back your project and you will see that the volume
automation you just made will be recorded.

11. If you don’t like how the volume automation came out, press
control Z to undo your changes and when you are done editing changes,
make sure you go back and uncheck your write automation check box in the
volume section of your audio track.

Hope this helps, and don’t forget to check out CTs tutorial on
automation!

Cheers!

Ivan
