Very cool Sean! So Omar, you ay even get down to 1.3MS as Sean is.

Same here, I'm running at 1.3 latency with no drop-outs at all. (7, 6Gb
triple channel, and FW1884.

Hmm, not experiencing any lag here between my Korg Triton, Yamaha P-50M piano module and softsynthes such as DR-008, Dimension pro and True pianos on a core duo 2.13 system with the FW-1884. used to on extremely rare occasions experience a bit of latency when running with my Motu 2408 with the mkII interface and a sound card buffer of 1024. Mind you that was on my old system which was a 1.6GHZ AMD Athlon.

Unfortunately, there will always be a problem with sync between
softsynths and hardware synths. The latency is primarily caused by your
audio interface's input latency; the delay between when the note is
played on the external synth, and the point when the sampled sound
reaches an audio track in Sonar. Under great conditions, this might only
be 2-3MS. For many people, though, they might run with 4-8MS of input
latency. That means that, when they listen to the playback of their
project, the audio that was recorded will seem to trail the softsynths'
audio by about 5MS. I can notice 5MS.

The only easy solution that I know of is to manually nudge the audio to
compensate for the lag, but that is annoying to do each time you track
in the sound from the hardware synth.

This is yet another reason why I suggest that most people try to get
away from using hardware synths if possible. You can make them work, but
you lose the nice benefits of working in a softsynth world: instant
recall of state, no sync issues, fast mix-down.

Cakewalk needs an External Synth plug in like the External Insert plug
in. Right now, I use External Insert plug ins on my mLAN return tracks
from the Motif, since it allows the return tracks to act a little like
softsynths. I still have sync problems, though. Of course, this isn't a
problem in Cubase, with VST3 support. The mLAN VST3 plugs automatically
compensate for sync. Cakewalk says that they won't support VST3....oh
well.

OK, bounce the external hardware synth to audio and then freeze the soft
synth then compare the playback timing.

Best wishes.

If you're refering to the external synth track as one of the tracks when
you say "both tracks," the external synth track is still a midi track. i
haven't converted that to audio yet.

Does the lag persist if you freeze both tracks?

Best wishes.

Subject: [ddots-l] latency with sfz

Hello,

I notice when I record a kick from an external synth in sonar,
then record
one from the sfz vst, they are not hitting exactly at the same
time, even
after I quantize them. There seems to be a very slight delay
from the sfz
hit. I looked at the latency in sonar and it shows it at 5.8
seconds, and
the value is at 2. That seems to me pretty low and is most
likely not the
problem. Yes, no? Other thoughts?

Thanks.
