Place the file in the sonar 6 folder, under sample content. Then in sonar,
go to options, instruments, go to the port you have the motif connected to,
if using usb, something like 2:yamaha usb0-1/1 or 1:yamaha usb0-1/1. Click
define, then click import. Then look for the file, open it, select the
motif es all option, then press import, close, and assign all 16 channels of
that port to use motif es all, by selecting the port/channel, then tabbing
to the list box of ins files and selecting motif es all... Then hit ok, and
you are good to go.
If using usb, on the motif es, press utility>f5>sf4 and right there press
the inc/yes button to switch to usb. If using midi cables then don't
bother,,,
Then switch the motif es to song or pattern mode, load a blank 1, and away u
go!

Subject: [ddots-l] need help with instrument definition in sonar 6 with ct6

Hi fellow dancsters and dotsters,

I've owned a motif es8 for some time now and have, to this point,
only used it to record audio tracks in sonar 6, using caketalking 6, latest
versions of each. I decided I'd like to try setting up the midi interface
and start using the instrument in midi recording. I need serious help in
this endeavor, I'm afraid. So I come here!

I have a file called MotifESALL_10705.ins, which is supposed to be the
instrument definition file for my keyboard. My first question is, where
should I place this file so that sonar will find it?

My second question relates to the caketalking documentation from
lesson 58G. It states the pressing alt-i, alt-f and alt-i will bring me to
the right place from which to import my instrument definition. That doesn't
happen. I just get a ding sound when I press the last alt-i. What am I
doing wrong?

Any and all help in solving this dilemma is truly appreciated.

Rusty
