Hey what's up Bolo,
You would have to do that destructively. It is really not necessary to do
that as your settings will remain when you bounce the whole project down to
wave or MP3. It is much better to put it on your track set it the way you
like it or record automation if you need to and then just leave it alone
after that. 

If you do it destructively, you won't be able to change it. that is why it
is called destructive editing.

I am aware that if I put it in the effects bin or in a buss I can manipulate
it after the track is recorded.
But what I want to know if it is possible to record the compression at the
sane time onto the track with the audio in real time?

you have it.  either you put it on a track or a bus... At
