Hi Terry, , while unplugging and plugging the device is a good idea I’d like to
look at the following check list:
1. What kind of computer is your friend using?
is it a laptop ,Desktop?
If so, how many USB ports does he have?
In most cases although we wouldn’t think about it, I would definitely invest in
a USB hub with a power adaptor.
You see… with out knowing what devices your friend has hooked in, IE hard
Drive, Keyboards, Scanners, these devices if not supplied with a powered USB
hub can draw power creating the circumstances you just described.
I had the same issue where when using a non powered hub with my hard drive/
audio card, and keyboard caused me to receive a message stating the the device
drawing too much power will be shut down.
Yes this actually came from my Mac but the same principle applies here.
I went and checked to see if the hub’s power supply was plugged in, and found
that I had accidentally disconnected it.
Once I plugged in the power supply on my hub everything now functions properly
and I no longer get this message.
If the case that your friend has s desktop, don’t kid yourself lol, since USB
devices can actually draw loads of power, especially since they don’t have a
dedicated power supply can actually cause the erroneous messages.
Even if you have a desktop, I still recommend having a hub with a power supply.
I know its a little more to carry in your bag, but its better to invest in
something that can actually support the devices we hook in, especially if they
draw loads of power.
One might question my theory in saying that “the mixer has a power supply,”
however think of this, if the external drive doesn’t and you happen to plug in
the mixer, and hard drive with out a power supply in to a non powered supply
hub, which one of those devices is going to try to draw more current?
I hope I’m making sense here, and don’t mean to confuse any one here lol.
however I have a feeling that this could be the problem.
To add more to the pot, Are you actually using the cable you received from the
manufacture of the board?
or are you using a cable that came with lets say a printer/ scanner?
These USB cables are not dedicated for the device you are using, and actually
are very cheep.
You should always use the one that came with your board, or a USB cable which
has a good quality build with the wire.
I know that I’m going a little over board but these are contributing factors
that can, and I have seen can cause issues, especially since we now have
devices that are in USB 3 mode.
Hope this makes sense.
Please let us know.
Cheers.

Plug it in and see what happens. Remember that a lot of troubleshooting is

Dear list, while troubleshooting my new mtk22 mixer, I had a friend
take it to his house and connect it to his computer to determine if
there was a problem with the board. While installing the driver, he
got a message saying to disconnect and reconnect the power cord to the
mixer. I never did this while setting it up at my studio. He was able
to get sound through the board, so it's not defective, it's just
something I did wrong and this seems to be the only thing I can think
of that I didn't do. Do I need to uninstall and reinstall the drivers
when I plug the board back in, or should it work now that I've
disconnected it from my computer? Thanks...Terry
