My Mac happens to be a new Mac which has for US BC three ports yes indeed the
power and desk tops don’t have that many issues but you never know
As a rule of thumb I always recommend to clients/customers to go for a powered
USB hub to avoid such issues
Once again many thanks for giving me a clearer path exclamation, it’s much
appreciated as much as it work in tech-support, support I only know so much LOL

Yes this actually came from my Mac but the same principle applies here.
I went and checked to see if the hub's power supply was plugged in, and
found that I had accidentally disconnected it.
Once I plugged in the power supply on my hub everything now functions
properly and I no longer get this message.
Phil comments the reason you received that error message is because you were
attempting to use a powered USB hub with out the power plugged in. That's
expected behaviour as any USB powered hub that doesn't have its power supply
plugged in will exhibit this behaviour as it's a powered USB hub so
naturally will be expecting power.
Haven't personally had to use a USB powered hub with a desktop and most USB
devices don't require much power really. Further more the ones that do ship
with a power supply have a supply fitted to them that is more than adequate
to power the device in question otherwise there would be no point fitting
the power supply at all. Having said that I have known folks attempt to try
to power to many USB devices from a system that is underpowered for such
things E.G. the power supply that was shipped in the PC simply isn't
powerful enough for the task in hand. In such cases the system may exhibit
behaviour such as spontaneously rebooting which points to an issue with
hardware. That's an entirely different issue though.
As for Mac's they tend to not ship with as many ports as one may wish for so
a powered USB3 hub is recommended in order to be reasonably current.
