I guess they thought they were providing a way for us to recover lost files
with the temporary files, but as far as I can tell those are garbage.

Could the Save/Discard dialogue already in DBT be utilised/extended so
that, whenever you open Duxbury, it will prompt if there are 'temporary'
Duxbury files - whether in print, braille, or imported into DBT - that
have not
been 'properly' saved nor properly closed?  Kurzweil 1000 (for example)
has an option whereby if the last file was not properly saved because of
a crash or other reason, it lets you know when you re-open it.  "Note:
The last file was not properly saved.  If you would like to open it,
press the Accept key ...") and you have an option to press another key
to cancel that dialogue and resume operation otherwise.

Some editors have a hot key to toggle Auto-save on or off.  For those
who
prefer, there's an option in one of the menus.
