Well said Susan.
Below is a link to an online workshop held last year on just this topic as well
as relevant reading material.

We have recorded the processes listed as macros. One of the most useful as a
sighted transcriber is the use of colour to highlight the different characters
which helps to determine if the correct symbol has been used in Word to ensure
accurate translation in DBT.

The Australian Braille Authority supports braille transcription in Australia
through its Guidelines and workshops. Refer also to our materials on braille
formatting and using the Duxbury Braille Translator.ABA recommends DBT for
professional braille transcription, however Braille Blaster is the best
software available for free.. For a list of organisations offering braille

Subject: [duxuser] Re: Beware The Apostrophe
The root cause of this problem is that English print does not use different
characters for an apostrophe and for the semantically distinct right single
quote whereas English braille does. This statement is true whether or not
the print document is using so-called "smart" quotes. The solution requires
identifying the print semantics but there are not to my knowledge any
algorithms that can always correctly do so. There are various heuristics
that work fairly well. It should be feasible to develop a simple app that
could be applied to a print document that works rather like a spell checker
in that it saves human time by only querying a human when it is uncertain.
