Hello Caroline: Instead of going through all that polava, finding the code, highlighting it, selecting it, copying it to the clipboard, pressing <F6> to open the "Search and Replace" function, pasting the code into the "Text to find:" edit field, pressing the <TAB> key to move to the "replace with:" edit field and typing the replacement text, instead do the following: 1. First, make sure that "Coded View" is turned on by pressing <ALT+F3>. If you want to use the code list feature when performing either the "Search" function or "search and replace" function, coded view must be turned on before using either of these two functions. 2. Press <F6> to open the "Search and Replace" function. Do not type ['] for the hard space character as the search string that you are wanting DBT to find. DBT will not find the code if you type [']. 3. Instead, Press <F5> to open the "code" list. 4. press the <APOSTROPHE> key. This will highlight the Hard space code. 5. Press <ENTER> to accept your choice and exit the "code list". You will find a character in the "Search for" edit field. It does not normally represent the ['] code. 6. Press the <TAB> key to move to the "Replace with:" edit field. Type the replace character, such as a space character, Press <ENTER> and select "All" to complete the "Search and Replace" function. Don't worry about the multiple spaces if you are editing a print document. Multiple spaces are erased down to a single space to separate each text unit, when you transcribe the file to braille. Of course, if you are editing in a braille document and you want to remove the extra spaces, you would have to perform the "search and replace" function several times by typing two spaces in the "Text to find:" edit field and typing one space in the "Replace with:" edit field, until DBT displays the message telling you that there are no more additional spaces between each text unit in the file.
