Thanks everybody.  I'll file that thought away about building a frame;
for now, the JAWS cursor with the codes unrevealed works.  The frame is
truly a good idea, though.  I'll have to do a global search of my brain
to remember what I learned last year in the JAWS script-writing class
about frames...

I built a jaws frame around the info on the status line and assigned it
to f12.

Those of you who use JAWS with Duxbury:  is there a way to determine how
many pages a document is after it's been translated--or before it's been
translated, for that matter!  Reading the status bar and using the JAWS
cursor have not helped.  Ann and Steve: surely you guys have a trick.
