Keren,

Again, assuming you're in Word, here's another way.
In the Find and Replace dialogue, check the Use Wildcards checkbox - if
you can't find that checkbox on the dialogue, press the More>> button
and it will appear.
Then in the Find area put
([a-z])^13([a-z])
and in the Replace area put
\1 \2

With the Use Wildcards checkbox checked, \1 and \2 in the replace term
replicate what is contained within the first and second set of round
brackets in the search term respectively.

Steve

Hi Keren,

You don't say what program you are using for editing here, so I assume
it may be Word.

Would the majority of the wanted paragraph markers all be preceded by a
full stop or period by any chance?

If so, how about:

1) Search for .^p and replace with .^p^p

2) Replace ^p^p with say *****

3) Replace ^p with space (bar)

4) Replace ****** with ^p^p

If that's not what you want, send me the file itself to my e-mail
address, I can take a look and see if there's an alternative.

George.

Subject: [duxuser] Find and Replace

Hi, I've been trying to find out how to remove all unwanted paragraph
marks from a large amount of scanned text. I thought that [a-z]^13[a-z]
would find any paragraph markers with a letter un-spaced each side,
which is what I have.

I can't work out what to replace it with, I know I need a space, but I
don't know how to not change the letter before and after the paragraph
mark.

Using the [a-z] only works because the wanted paragraphs all end in
punctuation. Can anyone help?

Many thanks, take care, Keren
