Hi All,
I thought some folks might find this information useful and
interesting. It just goes to show you that the Mac is getting attention in
the Blindness industry.

Index Braille and Sighted Electronics Announce Universal Version of Braille
for Mac OS X

GAMMELSTAD Sweden & WESTWOOD, New Jersey - February XX, 2006- Index Braille
AB and Sighted Electronics Inc. today announced they have collaborated to
develop a Braille translation application for Mac OS X version 10.4 "Tiger".
Using the Index Braille Embosser any user will now have complete Braille
embossing capabilities for all Mac OS X applications running on Power PC and
Intel-based Macs.

"We have developed the CUPS (Common UNIX Printer Driver) for the Index line
of Braille embossers enabling full Unicode support for Grade Two Braille on
Mac OS X," said Per Burman, VP of Engineering at Index Braille. "Index
Braille will release a first version of a new Braille Editor, iBraille, in
March."

"Tiger features a number of Universal Access innovations and our Xcode
developer tools make it easy for developers to deliver powerful applications
that take advantage of them," said Ron Okamoto, Apple's vice president of
Worldwide Developer Relations. "We're thrilled to have Index Braille and
Sighted Electronics provide this Universal application to enable users to
emboss Braille and take full advantage of the performance gains of the new
Intel-based Macs."

iBraille makes it possible to format Braille documents and do full scale
Braille production for the first time on Mac OS X. Both the CUPS Driver and
iBraille are Universal applications, which will work with Power PC- and
Intel-based Macs. Using Apple's development environment made it easy to
create Universal applications.

Due to Apple's strong presence in the school systems future developments
will add Mathematics functions and the Nemeth Braille Mathematics code.
