What I did to get rid of the letter signs in the print document was:

I went to the Codes list with F5, hit do which brought me to the Direct
Braille, and in the parameters field I wrote: ,v for Roman Numeral 5, for
example, and then went to Okay.  That way, whatever's in the Direct Braille
field will come out as you typed it. whether it's ,a or ,b or ,c for letters
or Roman numerals.
