Hi Kuenga,

A good place to start is the web site of The International Council on English
Braille (ICEB). http://www.iceb.org

You will find links to various items there which will help you.

George.

Hi George,
Is there a possibility of download or obtaining a manual/Braille Primer for
beginning learners similar to RNIB British Braille Primer?

Thanking for your support.

Hi Kuenga,

Your "hope" is just exactly what Unified English Braille is!

With its adoption in Australia, New Zealand, Nigeria, South Africa, Canada, UK
and now the USA, others are following. Many other countries where English is
spoken are following suit.

It's not a major learning curve. By far the majority of literary braille users
have no problem reading UEB, and some don't even notice.

The technical side is the most challenging, but generally speaking, only for
those who already use a technical braille code of one kind or another.

And UEB has been twenty years in development, therefor isn't just some pie in
the sky idea. In due course, you will be able to beg, buy or borrow English
braille books from almost anywhere and know you will get the same code to read.

Just one point I'm often asked about. UEB does not change the way words are
spelled. You will still find the likes of "color" and "colour" as in print.

George.

Hi George,
Thank you very much for the link.
Yes, I studied, and there seems to be some difference.
Few decades back, we were confused with the British Braille and American
Braille. Now we have yet another one.

Hope some day, the world will use just one system..

This is just my views.

Hi Kuenga,

You will find a summary of the main differences at the following URL in various
different formats. (Please make sure the URL doesn't split over two lines - it
should end in /ueb-summary)

Hello Kuenga. If you want to emboss a document in English Unified Braille,
follow these steps.
1. Create your document using the English Unified Australian Formatting,
English Unified-Bana, English Unified-Basic or English Unified- UK formatting
template depending on where you live.
2. Translate your document.
3. Emboss your document.
You can also use any template and change the translation table from the
translation tables submenu which is located in the Document menu. The mnemonic
is alt+D,T.
I'm not sure when we will officially convert to Unified English Braille.

Hello,
You asked:
"When embossing in Duxbury should I pick English/Unified Braille or
English(American) Standard Literacy Format" how do we get those options?

When wechoose different types of documents, we usually get options such as:
English (American Textbook DE) - Textbook Format English (American) - Standard
Literary Format

Actually, what is the main difference between:
1. English/Unified Braille or English(American) Standard Literacy Format 2.
English (American Textbook DE) - Textbook Format 3. English (American) -
Standard Literary Format

Looking forward to hearing soon.
