Hi There,

Because all of the new computers do not come with a parallel port, it was
necessary for me to purchase one. I chose the one Enabling has because I
have a Juliette Pro 60. At least with this model, all I needed to do was to
plug it in and my laptop (with Win 7) found the driver and I was up and
running. However, you need to configure the printer with whichever computer
you are using. I had contacted Don at Duxbury and he walked me through it.
If you are not sure how to set it up in Duxbury, than I recommend contacting
Don at Duxbury.

Good luck, as I was very satisfied with the USB parallel adaptor that I
purchased from Enabling Technology.

Duo embosser?

Hi Nancy,

We're based in the UK, and our advice to users here is to use a Serial to
Parallel adaptor from an electronics store called "Maplins". We know these
work, and frankly won't support anything else. Not all of these devices are
alike - far from it.

I see that Enabling Technologies have one in their on-line shop
(http://store.brailler.com/accessories.html) at $30 which is a little less
than the £25 (British Pounds) Maplin charge.

At least you'll know the Enabling one will work, but whatever you go for, do
make sure whoever tells you about it, confirms that it will work with an
embosser.

George.

Subject: [duxuser] Will a USB to Parallel cable work with a Versapoint Duo
embosser?

Hi All,

This isn't strictly Duxbury related, but since I plan to use Duxbury to
prepare documents for embossing and actually use it to control the
versapoint, I hope list moderators will forgive me!

We have an old versapoint duo here at the school that only has Parallel or
Serial connection, no USB. Of course computers are all about USB these
days. Has anyone been in the same situation and successfully gotten a
Parallel (or Serial) to USB cable to run their old Versapoint Duo? It is a
model BP2B-01 and says Blaize Engineering (as opposed to Freedom Scientific)
on it.

I've read a lot of stories about those type of converter cables NOT working,
so if anyone has any advice or suggestions as to how to conquer this
particular beast, I'd love to hear it. Then I can use Duxbury to do some
actual interpoint embossing, which up until now I have been unable to do
with the "new" embosser we have.

TIA,

Nancy
