Susan, thanks for taking the time to respond to my puzzlement.

I was using the English Australian template (or more correctly, I was using a copy of it which I had saved under a different name and had added to it a few additional styles). as my default, but had got the same results when using the English British and also one of the English American templates.

When I looked at my file in more detail I saw that it was not correctly interpretting any of the styles such as headings and centering, so:

I deleted my template and created a new one from the English Australian using what had been saved in a file previously. Now, at least for this moment in time, all appears to be working properly. I can only suggest that something had become corrupted which was rectified when I deleted my template.

If all this sounds gobblygook and nonsense well it probably is, but at least it appears to work now.

Thanks Susan for your offer of help and if I am stuck again I will take up your offer of help and contact you off list.

Regards and thanks

Christine

Christine,

The B-BodyText. style is in the English (American Textbook DE)- BANA
template. If you are opening a Word file in DBT and getting this, it
indicates you are using that template, not the regular Textbook or
Literary templates. If the Word document has used the Body Text style
appropriately for paragraphing, you should get correct paragraphing in
DBT also. In Word, the Body Text style is a default style, but it is
also used in Word's braille template. The standard Textbook and Literary
templates map this to the the para. style, where the BANA template maps
it to the B-BodyText. style.

You should not be able to get the B-BodyText. style in DBT by using any
other template other than BANA. If you want to send me your Word and
.dxp file offlist, I'll take a look at them and see if we can get this
figured out for you.

Now that I have MS Word files opening properly in DBT, I am experiencing
another puzzling problem.

Whenever I import a word file, Duxbury treats the paragraphs in an odd way.

Instead of placing {para.} and {/para.} around the paragraph of text it
itserts the code {b-bodytext.} and {/b-bodytext.} instead.

This then means that all the text is presented as a single block. The
only way I can get a sensible file is upon opening the word file in DBT
I then must do a search and replace on the b-bodytext style codes and
replace them with es~para. and es~/para. codes.

It makes no difference which DBT template I use, always the result is
the same.

Hope someone here also has a quick and easy answer.

I am using Windows XP Pro, Office 2003, DBT10.5 and JFW6. When I ran the
same downloaded version of DBT under Windows 98, I did not experience
this problem.

Many thanks

Christine
