Hi Janet. You should have a printer called "KESI Virtual Printer". So what
you'd do is open the PDF file in Acrobat Reader and print it just like you
normally would print a document. But in the print dialog box, instead of
sending it to your inkjet or laser printer, select the KESI Virtual Printer
before you press the Print button. Wait a few seconds and K1000 will launch
and recognize the document for you.

Hope this helps.
Joanie

Hi Joanie

I have verson 7.0 of Kurzweil 1000, how would I save a PDF to the virtual
printer (and where would I find the virtual printer in the Kurzweil
program).

I have heard that there are programs that you can download from the internet
which convert PDFs to text but I don't know if they retain the layout of the
document.

Janet makes a good point about the layout issue. If you have a fairly
recent version of Kurzweil 1000 or Open Book, printing the PDF to the OCR
package's "virtual printer" is a handy way to tackle this issue
non-visually.

Take care.

However you have to be careful when converting to plain text because the
text doesn't always get saved in the correct layout, so you may end up with
bits from the end at the beginning. For me, this is OK, as I do have a
little vision so I just print out the PDF and then read through it using a
CCTV and checking the text document as I go through it.
