On the other hand, if you are using DBT 10.5 and you install the JAWS scripts that come with it, when you press the <DOWN> or <UP ARROW> keys to read a line of text within a braille file, JAWS reads the line on the screen that back-transcribes the words on the line that has focus so that JAWS reads the words as print words and not words which contain ASCII characters that are used to represent braille contractions.

Turn Grade Two translation off on the display. Your screen reader is re-translating the file, which is why you see what looks like gibberish. If you switch to grade one Braille, then turn the sound down, you can look at your file in what will be recognizable Braille.

Anyway my question is when I bring up a dxb file it is showing in
computer braille, I think. The first line is supposed to say YOUR LIFE IN CHRIST
What I'm seeing on the display, (power braille 40) is
,,yr ,,life ,,#9 ,,* It is not showing the rest of the line.
I had the pacmate display showing it in grade 2 at the workplace. They
are using 98SE there and I'm using xp at home with the power braille 40. The
versions of Duxbury are different also. Hope this all makes sense and

Myself an others do it all of the time.
There are some individuals on this list who will say that it is not possible to produce a braille file that is 100% accurate from DBT's print editor.
To say that it cannot be done, is nothing but a load of "cods wallop".

Using a full keyboard to enter ASCII Braille causes less strain than six-key typing. There are many styles of ergonomic keyboards designed toarmsstrain. Typing on a properly-designed keyboard should not make yourbraillingor hands tired even when you are older. An even better option foris to let Duxbury do it!
