Hi Tony
The problem with Registered letters is that the sender is paying extra to make
sure that you get it most of the Registered letters are not good news and their
are legal issues. Unofficially if you have a regular post person and have a
chat you could possibly make what we call a local arrangement mainly for
packets legal stuff or summons not so flexible
Hope that helps

Hi, Chris,
Thanks for that explanation, the product sounds great!
It would be a bonus if somehow they could overcome the registered mail
issue in order that we need not sign for a delivery something like what
could be done say on line.
Cheers,
Tony

I agree with you on the notes that we get every week they are so accurate
and concise with great effort thanks Cearbhall.
The post boxes can be ordered directly from an post one time payment of 80
euro approx they are larger than an A4 envelope deeper than the standard
boxes so packets can be fitted into them. They also open out as the top is
curved. They don’t have the standard letter opening as they are a sealed
unit. So if you are away from home for a few days nobody can see or access
your mail. Most scanned and signed items with be delivered to the box also.
Registered letters are the only item that won’t be delivered without a
signature. You get a email with your delivery also.
Regards
Chris

letterboxes
Regarding the incoming calls not showing on the iPhone screen. I noticed
same problem as I need to turn on the microphone, (hearing impaired). To
solve this go to Settings > Phone > Incoming calls > Full Screen.

Hi Cearbhall, all,
Well done for such a comprehensive set of minutes as usual they are always
great to get.
The bother you and others take to bring them to us is so much
appreciated and well worthwhile.
I'm reading of the new letterboxes from an Post and am wondering does
anyone know any more of them?
How do you order and is there an ongoing costt for them?
Also am wondering how big are they and might they hold a regular-sized
braille magazine for example?
My postman the other day managed to put an envelope with two
regular-sized folding canes through my regular door letterbox easily
enough but this of course wouldn't always be possible I'd say.

In attendance: (12 Participants)
Martin Kelly, Noreen Meagher, derry Walsh, Martha Parkinson, Pat McCarthy,
Ken Walsh, Cearbhall O'Meadhra, Gavin Allman, Sean Kavanagh, Paul Griffith
Jackie McBrearty Chris Egan.
Ken and Jackie explored the host settings in Zoom to turn on the doorbell
to mark the arrival of a new person in the Waiting Room.
They found it by opening Zoom and signing in as host, then starting a
meeting. Selecting "more" in the bottom right of the screen, Selecting
"Meeting Settings" and then enabling "play, leave and join sound ".
This feature is only available to the host.
Paul is wrestling with the problem of getting into the Bank of Ireland to
work with his accounts. If he goes through Firefox, he is met with a
question asking "do you have the app". He wonders what would happen if he
said "yes"! In fact, he does have it. After some discussion, it was agreed
that nobody knows yet what the Bank will respond with. Some version of
two-factor authentication is feared. Paul has decided to keep saying "no"
for the moment as this will allow him to get into his accounts in the
usual way. Paul agreed to send a copy of the Bank message to the list for
further clarification.
Jackie is getting used to two-factor control in her Amazon account. The
app asks for confirmation of her id on the phone, which she finds
reasonably manageable .
Martin mentioned that he is involved with the "hardliners" writers group.
These are all VIP writers and Meet on Saturday mornings. This explains
why he arrived at the exchange club out of breath!
Ken was wakened in the small hours when Alexa suddenly started lighting up
very brightly. Jackie agreed that this could not mean that someone was
accessing Alexa and suggested that it might be because Alexa was being
updated.
Paul, Jackie, derry and Ken commiserated on the loss of sports channels
from Sky. it appears that Sky did not want to apply for an EU licence now
that Brexit is up and running and prefer to retain UK services only.
Various expensive increases were noted because of Brexit including the
importation of steel and the export of horses not being permitted into
Britain.
Ken took the plunge and updated to IOS 14.3. He has found no major bugs
yet. However, he finds that he cannot delete or close email drafts and
demonstrated the difficulty to the meeting. Nobody had an answer after
many attempts and all agreed that this is a new bug that will, hopefully,
be cleared up some time in the future. Meanwhile, Ken found that he could
email the draft to himself, which removed the message from drafts, and
then delete the message from his inbox.
Ken and others also agreed that IOS dictate and Siri have deteriorated
badly.
Martin is desperately trying to move his Fire Tablet from Eircom to Gmail.
He has lost the access code for Eircom and found it frustrating when Apple
Accessibility failed to help him to make the necessary adjustments. The
meeting advised him to set up a new password for the Eircom account so
that he can then remove it from his system.
Under IOS 14.3, Ken noticed that IOS no longer fills the screen with an
incoming call but reduces it to a small window at the top of the screen
leaving the desktop or other screen content undisturbed. A two-finger
double tap does not answer the call as it used to because the phone call
is no longer in focus. After some discussion, it was agreed that this is
probably an attractive behaviour to sighted users who can continue their
previous activity while on a call but is a nuisance for VoiceOver users.
Martha wondered how she can convert Alexa into a Bluetooth speaker for the
iPhone.
Cearbhall did a quick search on the net and found that the iPhone should
be opened in the Bluetooth settings and placed beside Alexa. She should
then tell Alexa "pair" and the connection should result.
Derry had difficulty finding the sign-out button in his audible Profile.
Martha, Ken and Cearbhall all gave helpful suggestions including the
precise location of the sign-out button in the profile settings, the use
of the four-finger single tap at the bottom of the screen to jump to the
last line of a long profile.
Martha was surprised to learn that she could ask Alexa to find a book in
Audible and to instruct Alexa to buy the book as long as she has credits
available.
Breaking mews! Noreen's Apple Watch has finally arrived! She has begun to
set it up and will report progress.
Chris advised that an Post sells exclusive post boxes for individual
homes. There are only two keys. The client has one and the postman has
another. This way, the post is secure and can be delivered safely without
touching. It costs about €70.The postman registers the drop and an email
is sent to the user.
Chris was wondering why Voiceover has the option of turning off the voice.
The meeting pointed out that this would permit the silent use of Voiceover
keystrokes and prevent Voiceover from speaking during podcasts, films or
other audio services. It also enables more comfortable Braille reading
which is fed by the text that Voiceover speaks. A three-finger double tap
mutes and unmutes the voice.
Sean is getting used to the echo show and wondered how to turn on skills
in the device. Jackie explained that he should command the device to "Turn
on ....skill" and the device should enable it. The Echo Show uses Voice
View as its screen reader.
Martha wondered how to find the Delete, Sent Items and other folders in
the laptop version of Outlook 365. Cearbhall looked up the question on the
net and found that the only direct way to find a particular folder appears
to be control+shift+f to open the search utility and type in the name of
the folder or email. Martha will give it a try but agreed that the search
function in desktop versions of Outlook are very difficult to manage with
Jaws or NVDA.
The meeting ended.
All the best,
Cearbhall
