Welcome to another instalment of Lady Whistledown's papers on the goings
on in the Cork TechClub. The following ladies and gentlemen were in
attendance.
Des Keaney, Ken Walsh, Derry Walsh, Chris Egan, Martha Parkinson, Noreen
Meagher, Jackie McBrearty, Dominique Farrell, Martin Kelly, Cearbhall
O'Meadhra, Gavin Allman, Paudie Cotterell, Clare Cassidy.
We had sorries from Pat Walsh and Sean Kavanagh.
Des kicked us off asking about Logitech keyboards and how good they are. Our
Logitech expert told him all about the one he has However, due to being
baffled about magnets this writer lost the plot with the description. Jackie
an accident prone person told Des she rather gets the cheap and cheerful
keyboards on Amazon as generally her keyboards get abused by getting bashed
off walls, flung off beds and stood on. Microsoft and apple keyboards were
also mentioned as viable options. Curries and Harvey Norman in Sligo were
suggested as possible places to buy them.

Des was also asking about organising his newsfeed so he'd see certain groups
and people IE Jackie first when he opens facebook. Chris checked it out and
told him to look for the button that says organise newsfeed or some words
like that. This should enable him organise his newsfeed.
Ken: reported on an issue that Sean K told us about last week. Sean was
missing calls from numbers that were not in his contacts, Sean tried what
was suggested and poor Siri was yelled at for an extended period of time.
Sean made contact with Ken, then Ken rang Jackie and they sorted Sean out.
The issue was silence unknown callers was on and its now off and all is well
in Seans ship again.
Gavin, registered with the overdrive NCBI Library and he was using the
EasyReader app, he was asking about bookshare so Cearbhall was telling him
about the differences about bookshare and overdrive and the different
services both platforms offer.
Now people grab a tea or coffee as this is a long one with a happy ending.
On Thursday night Cearbhall discovered all his audio books were gone. This
would make this writer cry. but after talking to Ken and they
troubleshooted a few different options with no resolve. Cearbhall then
contacted audible support, using their chat function. This was problematic
as there appears to be a small window of 3min in which you need to respond
before they close the chat window, once Cearbhall told them he was using a
screen reader they had more patience. To shorten the story Cearbhall had two
audible accounts one with a user name and one with an email but he wasn't
seeing on the app any option to sign in using his username. technical
support was had and Cearbhall got all his books back this ordeal lasted
until 2am.
Jackie and her signal group of fangs and fur reported back on the test they
said they'd do on the signal app. This came about from Martha telling us
about an unsuccessful group call in which using voiceover there was no menu
buttons and therefore no way to end the call. Fangs and Fur also reported
the same issues and two of our members with a teeny bit of sight reported
with voiceover on the buttons disappeared and with voiceover off they were
visible. During the call wifi signals also dropped and Jackie remained in
the status bar throughout the call. Two Fangs and Fur members Jackie and Ken
reported their findings to signal. in the writing of these notes signal
haven't made any contact with Ken nor Jackie.
Ken was asking does anyone elses audible sign them out. Jackie and Chris
along with other members reported this does not happen to them and that
Ken's phone was weird and possibly possessed.
Martin was telling us about a course he was doing on editing. Martin is an
actor in the sightless cinema, they tried an app called bandcast whichh is
in early days of development and reports were sent back into bandcast.
Martin was also asked about his blind shell phone, he told us he is still
very happy with this phone.
Clare started a conversation about zoom and teams. Clare struggled to go
into a meeting on Thursday, she was told there was another meeting in
progress. Jackie explained what happened but in the end after a phone call
the problem was sorted and the meeting started. Jackie said one of the major
issues with teams was there was no prier training given unlike zoom and the
level of training fighting blindness provided. as using it on a PC seems
stable enough but when using it on a smart phone you need an app and no one
got told this in the beginning. This group echoed that zoom was the
preferred option for meetings and various groups.
Martha, told us about her new cheep and cheerful wireless earbuds. Much like
Jackie with her keyboard Martha didn't want to invest in anything pricey
that she is destined to loose. Jackie reported she also goes cheep and
cheerful on headphones accept when she treated herself to aftershok bone
conducting headphones these headphones lasted less than six months before
they were lost and never found.The earphones Martha got are called Poms not
to be mistaken for pom poms. Des told us about earphones his wife bought him
in Super Valu. Both Martha and Des are happy while Jackie sniffled at the
loss of hers.
Windows then got mentioned and Jackie was wondering what the heck happened
in the latest update, now every time she turns on her laptop its asking her
to sign in. Jackie has no log in details for this machine as it was set up
for her, legally set up for her. Cearbhall is searching for the answer to
return Jackie's computer to its old self and he shall report his findings to
the list.
The meeting ended and all left very happy.
