Before the meeting started.
The meeting started off with four eager people charging the door to get in
before 11. They briefly discussed the collection for guide dog day. Jackie
also gave us a run down on how she was doing today. Plans were also made to
discuss the NCBI smart hub during the meeting. Jackie asked Cearbhall to
conduct some research for her. Viruses like monkey pox and corona virus
were also briefly mentioned in this opening period. A small discussion of
the weather and older viruses such as smallpox occurred. Jackie mentioned
how her guide dog was doing last night. People trickled in as it came
closer to 11. Apparently, you are not meant to arrive to the tech club
until 5 minutes before the tech club is meant to start according to the
invitation according to one participant. According to Pat the guards are
after Jackie in limerick for unspecified reasons.
TOPIC One: IPHONE Issues
PAT HAD A QUESTION HE WANTED TO RAISE TO THE GROUP. HE GOT A THIRD
GENERATION SE IPHONE. HE HAD TRANSFERRED HIS DATA FROM HIS PREVIOUS PHONE
ALRIGHT WITH KNOW ISSUES FROM HIS PREVIOUS PHONE HOWEVER WHEN HE SWITCHED
OF HIS NEW PHONE, HE WAS UNABLE TO LOG IN AGAIN AS VOICE OVER WAS TURNED
OF. HE GOT VOICE OVER ON HOWEVER HIS PASSWORD TURNED OUT TO BE INCORRECT AS
THE CHARACTERS HE ENTERED WERE INCORRECT. HE SAID USE THREE FINGERS DOUBLE
TAP TO TURN OF VOICE OVER WHEN IT BECOMES MUTED. THIS IS AN ISSUE HE HAS
FACED BEFORE WHEN VOICE OVER TURNS OF. HE HAS ACCIDENTLY PUT TWELVE
CHARACTERS IN WITHOUT REALISING IT. KEN ASKED IF HE HAD HAD A PHONE CALL
BEFORE HE TURNED OF THE PHONE. CEARBHALL ASKED IF ALL SETTINGS WERE
TRANSFERRED ASWELL TO THE NEW PHONE. KEN AGREED THAT THE TRANSFER IS VERY
EASY TO DO. A NUMBER OF OTHERS AGREED. THE NOTE TAKER WILL AGREE WITH THIS
AS WHEN THEY BOUGHT THEIR IPHONE 11 BEFORE THEY WERE ABLE TO TRANSFER FROM
THEIR ORIGINAL IPHONE SE VERY QUICKLY. HE CONTACTED
PPLE TO TRY AND RESOLVE HIS ISSUE THEY ONLY GOT BACK TO HIM YESTERDAY. KENN
SUGGESTED GIVING THE PHONE A FEW MINUTES AFTER STARTING IT UP BEFORE
PUTTING IN THE PASSWORD. APPLE GAVE HIM A NUMBER OF SUGGESTIONS TO TRY
INCLUDING CHANGING HIS VOICE OVER VOICE TO AUSTRALIAN ENGLISH OF ALL
THINGS. THE MEETING PARTICIPANTS FOUND THIS TO BE QUITE STRANGE. HE ALSO
GOT HIS FAMILY MEMBERS TO LOOK AT HIS SCREEN TO SEE WHAT WAS HAPPENING
VISUALLY ON HIS SCREEN. HIS ICONS WERE MOVING LIKE HE WAS IN AN EDIT FIELD.
JACKIE SAID THAT THIS WAS A BUG THAT APPEARED IN THE APPLE WATCH AT ONE
POINT BEFORE. CHRIS ASKED WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU CONTINUOUSLY GET THE PIN
NUMBER WRONG. PAT CLARIFIED THAT YOU COULD SET IT TO LOCK YOU OUT AFTER A
NUMBER OF ATTEMPTS. IT ALSO WILL WIPE YOUR PHONE. TO CHANGE THIS SETTING GO
TO PASSWORDS IN SETTINGS. THE ONLY WAY TO GET YOUR DATA BACK IS TO
REDOWNLOAD IT FROM THE CLOUD. DISCUSSION OF PASSWORDS COMMENCED. A FEW
PARTICIPANTS MENTIONED THAT THEIR PHONES CAN ACCIDELNTLY GO O
MUTE IN THEIR POCKETS IF THEIR NOT CAREFUL. PEOPLE DISCUSSED THE MUTE TOPICenefit
FOR A FEW MINUTES.
Topic 2: tennis
People talked to stuart about his time in Mayfest last weekend during the
last tech club. Stuart said he would have rathered been present at the tech
club then playing blind tennis. Hears a copy of a facebook post he put up
regarding his time their over the weekend for anyone interested in extra
reading.

Topic 3: NCBI smart hub and free Alexa’s
Several people asked about the free echo’s NCBI were giving out to
promote their smart hub. Stuart got his to sing a song. Pat asked how to
enable the NCBI smart hub Jackie told the group how she did it. This is
what she said:
1. Opened the Alexa app.
2. go into more and skills and games and search for the NCBI skill.
3. go to sign up.
4 enter your email address, password and phone number. (when entering a
password you need to put in a number) she also added a symbol.
5 You then should receive an email to confirm your email. click on the
confirm email.
6 Go back into the email you received and double tap on continue with
complete registration.and follow the instructions.
7 then finally confirm the email you'll receive from NCBI.
There is also an option to go onto the NCBI website and sign up for an My
NCBI account and then log into the skill.
Stuart explained how to set up an Alexa from his experience setting it up
last week. Jackie mentioned a what’s up group called fangs and fur.
Discussion of the skill commenced for a period and what use people will get
out of it. A few people had difficulty setting up the NCBI smart hub. Ken
said that you should use the Alexa email you initially used to register
with the NCBI smart hub. Cearbhall read out the official NCBI method to set
up the smart hub from an attachment he received. The confusion appears when
you attempt to link your Alexa account with your NCBI account. To create an
account, go onto the NCBI website and select smart hub. Cearbhall said the
account is only confirmed if they manually confirm it in NCBI. Budweiser
and Guinness were discussed here for some reason. One of the participants
said they were involved with the beta test of the NCBI smart hub and found
it significantly easier to sign up during that period as opposed to now.
Dominique asked about the b
of the skill, the call back option was considered the best feature. If youf discu
have any issues e-mail NCBI Labs.
Topic 4: Sticky Keys
Jackie had a question. She had an issue where an extra key would appear to
be pressed when she attempted a keyboard shortcut. For example, alt f4
becomes control alt f4 even though she did not hit control. She consulted
several people to try fixing this issue. It was determined that sticky keys
were the issue that Jackie was dealing with. Sticky keys are for people who
cannot reach all these keys at once to do keyboard shortcuts. Several
people attempted to figure out how sticky keys are turned on. Martha asked
if they’re like filter keys. Stuart suggested the shift key for ten
seconds or in combination with another key may engage them. Jackie
mentioned another time when she met someone else who turned them on before
she was not sure how they did that.
Topic 5: power reserve mode
Dominique asked if anyone had turned on power reserve on their apple watch.
No one had. According to her this is a mode of preserving the battery. It
disengages everything except the clock. It was compared to low power mode
on an iphone. Pat discussed airplane mode and what you can have turned on
with it for example wi fi, Bluetooth and mobile data. You cannot smoke on
an airplane still though. Dominique does not see any advantage to turning
on the mode on her apple watch as voice over eats through her battery
anyway. A few people suggested contacting apple to perhaps improve this
feature in some way. Dominique reckons that apple will bring low power mode
to future apple watches
Topic 6: Creating a group e-mail leads to trauma.
Ken wanted to create a group e-mail on his phone. He watched a video he
found very good, he had difficulty following the steps. He was required to
do this in the mail app. He had lost several numbers from his contacts
after trying to create his group. They are still on his iPad. He had more
issues with this. He tried several different things to try and fix this
issue. He ended up with A multiple of the same contact he was unable to
delete these multiple contacts as he kept getting the message this contact
was already deleted. He attempted to delete multiple contacts in what’s
app and other apps without any success. He eventually was able to fix his
issue very early in the morning. Discussion of how to create a group e-mail
occurred for a short period. Jackie said she would want to try creating one
out of curiosity. Ken was quite traumatised after trying to fix this
problem. Cearbhall asked if ken had auto fill engaged on his phone. Pat
said how to create a group e-mail. Brie
ssion of iOS 15.5 started up.===========================================================
Topic 7 iOS 16
Dominique brought up the newest update and what features will be coming in
the future for IOS 16 Ken praised the iphone 13 as a family member recently
bought one. Discussion of the find the door feature that is coming in IOS
16. This feature uses lidar to detect objects in your area. It is only
present on iphone 12 pro and up. Many people used it for detecting if they
were two metres apart during covid. The I phone 13 pro phone is 1171 euro.
You wouldn’t want to drop that one down the toilet by accident. Jackie
mentioned her iPod she did not get the colour she wanted during the summer
she wanted pink.
Topic 8: football.
Brief talk of football between a number of participants.
Topic 9: Miscellaneous
Discussion of how the bank of Ireland app crashed because of excited fans
who wanted to see a concert. They were quite outraged for some unfathomable
reason. RDS stands for Royal Dublin Society. Cearbhall gave us a reason why
it was called that.
Topic 10: GUIDE DOGS.
Dominique told us about her time collecting for guide dogs yesterday. A few
other participants on the call had also collected for guide dogs yesterday.
A number of pictures are present on the Irish guide dog Facebook page if
anyone is interested in seeing some happy dogs and volunteers out having a
great time. Dominiques guide dog worked fantastically bringing her home
yesterday. She was able to rely on her guide dog to get her home this was a
huge confidence boost for her. She wanted to prove to guide dogs that she
is independent and that she wanted to work her dog to the best of her
ability.
Topic 11: soundscape.
Cearbhall brought up soundscape and how it was able to provide him with
great detail he otherwise would not have been aware of. It is helping him
keep on track and manage corners easier. A few participants said that it is
improving. Cearbhall uses his hearing aids to use soundscape. They provide
him with the sounds around him at the same time. Dominique said she
doesn’t like using air pods out because she is afraid, they will be
stolen, she asked if hearing aids were more discrete. Cearbhall described
how they look. He said the only part visible is the wire the rest are
subtle. Alcohol came up again for some reason here something to do with
orientation. Martin said soundscape was fantastic on the train, Dominique
talked about how she was brought to the bus by a fantastic Dublin bus
worker because it had changed because of an accident. The audio didn’t
work because of this. Alcohol occurred again here.
Topic 12: compass
Pat asked about using the compass he said it was causing him issues.
Topic 13: headphones.
Jackie discussed a new product she started using to not lose her
headphones. Pat said he lost his headphones this way as he dropped them
before. Jackie described it as similar to a piece of string to hold the
headphones around her neck. This topic was discussed for a while with
several different participants giving their opinions of the fear of losing
headphones.
Ending notes.
The meeting broke up around this point with all participants going of for a
lunch after a meeting were a significant range of topics were discussed in
great detail. The note taker hopes that the readers found this format
useful for engaging with the notes. The note taker felt like experimenting
this week.
Regards.
The Notetaker.
