Cearbhall shared his accidental discovery that a two-finger double tap anywhere
on the Zoom screen mutes and unmutes audio in Zoom. This compares very
favourably with the alt-a toggle that desktop users find so convenient.
Jackie wondered if agencies testing Health app for accessibility are doing so
with voiceover. A discussion developed with various ideas leading to a
recommendation that the NCBI should be asked to look to the VIP membership for
testers rather than relying on sighted testers who appear to assume that all
VIPs have the latest software and devices. .
The meeting wondered if there was any feedback from the NCBI on the advocacy
programme. There have been 24 blind and visually impaired sessions in Dublin
and Athlone. The plan is to set up advocacy networks in Cork, and Limerick.
Jackie warned that it is essential to check the screen curtain on the IOS
device and make sure it is turned off before executing screen recording on the
iPhone.
Martha asked if there was any response from Audible on its recent user survey.
She found that the form was too difficult to manage so she had to give up
before completing the response.
Jackie found that the Tesco user survey is not accessible. Bert also found that
Shopping online with the Tesco app was not accessible.
Declan wondered what causes Office 365 to crash when he switches Outlook
accounts while NVDA is running. Cearbhall drew his attention to the logging
tools in NVDA which should give an indication of why this is happening.
Pat described the new spacer app for social distancing. created at NUI Galway’s
Health Innovation via Engineering (HIVE) Lab,
Called "SPACER", the Social Distancing App vibrates when someone else with the
app or with Bluetooth enabled on their phone is less than two metres away for
over one minute.
It is currently being tested by nurses and doctors in Galway. Reported to be
usable by NCBI.

Declan recently purchased a useful USB hub called "Sabrent 4-Port USB 3.0 Hub"
with Individual LED and individual on/off switches. He found it on Amazon. The
physical buttons are a good feature being easy to use and switch each port on
or off. This saves the tedium of plugging and unplugging devices when they are
not needed.
