NaviLens Accessible QR Codes
Hi to all you up-to-date tech savvy people!
I have been plying with the new codes, ones i have created myself, and
note a couple of differences which are useful for us, to wit:
My phone will read/scan a QR Code, fairly easily, when i give the command
"Hey Siri, Scan bar-codes". This is a short cut built into the IOS, don't
know about Android, sorry, so long as I am reasonably near and know roughly
where the code is, it opens up the link in the code and I am, for example,
listening to a sound recording or a video starts playing. This is fun at
first, but could get a bit "stale" quickly, being sent offf into sites and
media I wasn't seeking. Whereas, with the new codes, with the NaviLens Frame,
I can detect the code from a much greater distance. This is determined by the
size of the code. If I am too far for the phone to scan the QR Code, I may
well still be within the scanning distance of the NaviLens Frame Code and I
am told that an accessible navilens QR Code is found and I can be directed
toward it until it can scan the QR Code and then, here is the difference, I
am told what the QR Code contains and am offered the option of opening it.
This is much b etter for me! I am guessing that when these QR Codes are
employed in the public spaces, there are visual clues as to what they are
related, but for us, we don't have that info, so this description plus option
to open is totally important!!
Something else I notice, because these NaviLens Frames, for the QR Codes,
are generic, all the same, they could be any size, they canot give us info as
to the distance away, but they do give directional guidance, normal QR Codes
don't do this, so, if the code in question is on, say, a product, like a loaf
of bread, we wouldn't be able to locate it, but with the navilens addition,
we can go right to it, even though we would have to come upon it a bit
smartish, as the direction would be right, but the distance wouldn't be
indicated. Still extremely useful, both when shopping and when sorting
through the fridge/larder!
If you have to time, do try the link to the NaviLens website, where you
can create your own codes. You can create up to 5 of them but once created,
you can rewrite them, so they are almost infinite! I think, this access to
free QR Codes might not last for ever, so, worth a trip there now!! You will
have to log-in, which is just a matter of giving your email address and
getting a confirmation email. Once done, you are good to go and can revisit
the site to edit your codes.
I do hope people will give these codes a try and see what ideas for usage
they can come up with!!
