Apps are amazing. They give you a simple button-based interface, making sure
that what you need is just a few taps away. That's why it's so frustrating
when a service doesn't have an app. However, all is not lost. Did you know
you can also add websites to your home screen just like apps? Here's how to
do it.
1. In Safari, go to the website you want to add to your Home Screen. It
could be for anything. Sports scores, a Dashboard for a tool you use, any
website should work.
2. Tap or double-tap the share button on the bottom bar. You can flick to
this with VoiceOver if needed.
3. Flick or scroll down until you find "add to Home Screen".
4. Select this option, and if you need to change the name. This is what will
show on the Home Screen, or what will be read by VoiceOver.
5. Once you're set, tap or double tap Add in the top right corner.
6. You'll now be back on the Home Screen, where you'll find your shortcut
alongside the other apps.
Is this useful?
This is never going to replace a good app, but it does work as an effective
solution when an app is not available. It might also be the case that a
company has an accessible website, but not an accessible app, this is also a
good solution in this case.
