Hello Folks, On this the last day of July.
First of all, I was saddened to hear of the untimely death of that wonderful
singer Sinead O’Connor.
She was a brilliant singer and will be sadly missed by many music lovers.
On a happier note may I congratulate the mighty Dubs on their 31 st All
Ireland title.
There were 17 Participants for today’s meeting.
Today we had the Gorgeous Sharon Lyons from Sight and Sound join us for our
meeting.
Sharon was there on behalf of Sight and Sound, and told all of us about some
fine offers, the company have at the moment.
One can get an upgrade from any previous version of Jaws, for as little as
203€.
Also an upgrade from Zoomtex can be had for 167€
Please be aware that these do not come with an SMA, that is a Special
maintenance agreement.
In case I forget Sharon says that Sight and Sound will host a number of Road
shows in Ireland.
Beginning with Dublin on October 9th, then moving to Waterford, then onto
Cork, and finishing in Galway towards the end of that week.
For those people who signed up to get Sharon’s wonderful notes weekly, there
will be exact dates, venues and times for the various Road shows in
October , on her notes nearer the time.
Mary was making enquiries on Wireless headsets. , Sharon recommended ones
that she uses namely J-LAB GO WORK with microphone.
There are a myriad of these headsets, and they can also be obtained from
Amazone.
Some of them will have a noise cancellation option on them as well.
Although not spoken about much this morning, Sharon said there was good value
in the range of Ruby magnifiers and also on Braille sense machines.
Sharon’s short cuts, which I can confirm are brilliant, will shortly finish
up at the end of August with her Excel short cuts, and then she will commence
on Short cuts for Microsoft WORD.
There was a good conversation on Envision Glasses. These Glasses can be used
in the house using the Wifi, there. But when one goes out, they can be used
in the Hotspots available.
Martin wanted to know if they could show where the Door for instance was if
outside.
Sharon said that there was an option on the Glasses to make a call to an
ally. The Ally could then tell the vision impaired person that an open door
was a couple of feet to their right.
Tom who uses the Orcom Glasses said that these Glasses work quicker than the
Envision ones. They start reading immediately, whilst the Envision ones take
a minute or two to start reading.
There are several types of Orbit Glasses, ie, MY EYES PRO, My eye, and
Orbit read. The Orbit read is the cheapest coming in at around 2000€,and the
dearest is the MY EYE PRO at about 4000€
Some people wanted to know what the advantage of getting an upgrade to the
latest version of Jaws would be,
Well Sharon said several things like the new voice assistant called Sharky
are only now available on the last few versions of Jaws.
Also Jaws can now read most IMAGE files, using the OCR FACILITY.
OCR OPTIONAL CHARACTER RECOGNITION, can be put on using the Jaws key, plus
Spacebar and the letter O.
She says that keeping up to date with the latest version of Jaws makes
navigating around Windows 10 and 11 much easier.
At the time of me taking leave of the meeting, no decision had being made as
regards a meeting on Bank holiday Monday next.
I would be unable to attend that day and will be also missing for August
14th , but will be back to take notes for August 21st .
