This came up as a unanswered question during last Monday's meeting. Someone
asked if Voiceover would enable you to find a particular text item on the IOS
screen . This function is available on the desktop using JAWS or NVDA. It is
also available in VoiceOver on the MAC but not on the iPhone screen using
IOS.
I have just tried out the VO+f command in IOS on am iPhone SE using a
Bluetooth keyboard. With the keyboard it is possible to execute all the same
VO commands as are available on the MAC.
I was delighted to find that VO + f was able to pinpoint a piece of text in
the middle of an email message perfectly. So, the answer to last Monday's
question: "Does Voiceover enable the user to find text anywhere on the IOS
screen ?" is: "yes, if you use a Bluetooth keyboard. Sadly, it is not
available directly on the IOS screen using swipe gestures. Someone suggested
using search on the rotor. However, the search function on the rotor simply
searches for an active search edit box on the screen. It does not provide a
search function, unfortunately.
