it seems to be a double tap for me Dave and I've never changed it in settings.

I believe the default gesture for the Item Chooser is a triple tap with two
fingers, though like most commands, you can change it in VoiceOver settings.
When you perform the gesture, the Item Chooser will pop up, with a search
field at the top, followed by a list of all items presently on screen.
Type into the search field and it seems it does find what you want on the
page, including pieces of text containing what you’ve searched. I haven’t
tried it extensively, but at first look, it appears to be doing a good job
for me inside emails and web pages.

I have just tried out the VO+f command in IOS on am iPhone SE using a
Bluetooth keyboard. With the keyboard it is possible to execute all the same

the middle of an email message perfectly. So, the answer to last Monday's
question: "Does Voiceover enable the user to find text anywhere on the IOS
screen ?" is: "yes, if you use a Bluetooth keyboard. Sadly, it is not
available directly on the IOS screen using swipe gestures. Someone suggested
using search on the rotor. However, the search function on the rotor simply
searches for an active search edit box on the screen. It does not provide a
search function, unfortunately.
