This might be the perfect time of year to invest in smart plugs.
If you are trying to avoid getting prodded by pines and needles from the
Christmas tree every time you reach in behind it to turn on or off the
lights maybe a smart plug is the solution you need for those hard to reach
areas.
A smart plug slots into a socket just like an adaptor and can be controlled
by a smart phone app or smart speaker, so no need for a daily scuffle with
the Christmas bobbles. You can even set up a schedule for them to come on at
the same time every day. If you have other Christmas lights plugged in
around the home, they also could be turned off with a smart plug or you
could set up a routine to turn them all off at once.
If you link your smart plug with your smart speaker you can say things like
"Alexa or Hey Google" turn off the Christmas tree or if you have set up a
routine you can say "turn off all Christmas lighting".
There is also the possibility of getting a discount on smart plugs at the
moment in the Black Friday sales. Brands to consider are Samsung
SmartThings, Hive, TP Link, and Philips Hue smart plugs. The more well-known
brands tend to have a more accessible smart phone app. One nice feature
about some smart plugs is that they make a clicking sound when turned on or
off, so you know whether they're on or not.
