Discussions began on using the election buddy for the recent agm,
Some people said that it was very good, and some people preffered the
telephone voting system.
John Acton started a discussion on using and installing the Hive system for
controlling the home heating system.
John uses Gas, and has the Hive programme installed in his hallway.
Here he can control the amount of heat and the times it is set to come on
at and for how long.
He says that the temperature never drops below 7 degrees, and can be
increased up to what you like , ie 22degrees.
e has the Hive software on his Android phone, so coming back late at night
on a cold evening, John, can put on his heating by using his phone.
You need a qualified plumber to set up the Hive, and also to type in the
name of the Hive device that your using.
This can be very tricky.
The Hive system allows the user to set up a scheduling system for heat
usage. Michael Brown did not think that his Nest system would allow the
user to schedule heat usage.
Declan thought that this was possible using Nest, and promised to send out
an e mail to the FB mailing list.
John also said that he bought a superb hearing aid lately, and this has
proved brilliant for him. John Acton said that he has several Bluetooth
headsets, but although he can receive a call , and end the call while doing
other work, he cannot do this with a Whats app phone call.
Again Declan thought that this should also be possible, and asked John to go
into his Whats app settings, and give permission for calls and call
logging.
Declan said that he will also e mail the FB mailing list with the
instructions.
Marian alsogot an e mail from Security at Google no dash reply.
She was worried about this, but Mary says that these are common when
someone is out of the country and logging onto one of their devices, Google
are awake and wonder if this is the right person using the device or is
someone trying to break into someones account .
If the person is doing this themselves then they don't have to do anything.
Marian also wanted to know how to clear the history from Google Chrome.
Declan said to use the left alt key to bring up the menues.
Someone else suggested control shift and delete to bring up the correct
menu,
And arrow up and down to find the history .
There are two distinct history menues, like the one which shows you all the
searches that you have done, and the other one which has all the cookies on
it and lots of other information.
Mary also told us that she cannot still use her latest version of Jaws.
Jaws 22, and will follow this up with sight and sound shortly.
John Acton wanted to try out a screen reader, and everybody encouraged him
to start with the free open source screen reader NVDA.
