I would just like to add that on the 28th of February the exhibition being run
bye RNIB Will not be identical to that of Sight Village but I believe that if
it is a success this year they will hope to have Sight Village in the years to
come. I am looking forward to attending it. I believe it is from 10:30 am until
7 pm. The technology club is excellent, pre-Covid my recollection is that it
used to be an in person meeting but post Covid it is on zoom. any plans for it
to go back to meeting as a group in the Dublin area? I guess it could be a
hybrid meeting both in person and zoom for others around the country.

Agood sporting weekend in the Rugby with victories for Munster and Leinster.
There were 18 participants for today’s Dublin Tech Club.
We were reminded today that the exchange club is going now for the past 14
years or so.
In that time we have gone from the Iphone 4s to today’s iPhone 15 pro.
Also going from Windows xp to Windows 11. How time flies !
By the way a guided tour of the Andy Warhol exhibition on at the Hugh Lane
art gallery will take place tomorrow.
Mary says that the tour will commence at 12pm, and she says that a number of
people are meeting in the Foyer for 11.45 am.
The tour will be conducted by Fayla.
Mary told us that she purchased an iPhone 15 PRO, from the I connect shop
in Henry Street. Eamonn wanted to know where the shop was exactly.
Directions from O’Connell ST. walk up the street on the right hand side
and the shop is about 5 shops up.
The sales person said that transferring all her various apps, and so on was
very easy. Just park her old phone beside her new smart phone, and Apple
will do the rest.
But of course she had problems, as this Apple software will not transfer
things like her Bank details, her Revolut account or indeed her Zoom app.
With the help of a nice lady in the AIB online team ,she got her Bank up and
running again, but your locked out for around 4 hours while they check you
out, before your able to do any bank business.
The same was true for her Revolut account and Pay Pal accounts.
Zoom had to be downloaded again from the iCloud.
The whole business of transferring everything from her old Apple phone to
her brand new iPhone 15 pro, took up much of all day Sunday,
Without the help of her husband and the AIB call centre, mary said that
there was no way she would have been able to do all the setting up of her new
phone.
What was transferred automatically by placing the two phones together seemed
to be perfect.
Tom wanted to know what good Braille Speak phones were available on the
market today.
Albert talked about a machine called Mantis, available from Human wear.
As the various machines mentioned cost in the region of 4 to 5 thousand
Martin suggested Tom could go to a Site village show to be held in Belfast
in March this year in the Europa hotel.
Here he would see the complete range of Braille machines that combine
braille with speech available, and be able to handle them and see what they
are like.
There was a big discussion on the new Rabbit computers that are coming
available soon in Ireland.
These new computers use AI technology.
One can book a holiday to England for instance, book a hotel, a Restaurant
and take in a show all through using the AI facility.
These new computers don’t hold any information on you, but off course you
must give your bank details to secure what you book.
The computer then books everything on your behalf, but does not hold any
information on or about you.
Vera wanted to know why when she sends a mail to the list for instance,
congratulating the note taker
That her e mail does not show up on her phone or desktop.
Paul has always got the same problem, it seems that anybody using G mail has
the same issue, this is because Google does not aloud the sender to have
their own mail appear.
Vera’s of course e mail is visible to all other people whether she sends it
to a single person or the group.
Paul to get around this problem, cc’s himself as well as sending out the e
mail to the FB group as a whole.
Vera’s mail of course will also appear in her sent items.
But using the carbon copy keeps your mail and any responses on the same
inbox page.
It is fantastic to say that the exchange club is going that long, and has
helped an enormous amount of visiblyimpaired persons make more use of the
technology that they have bought.
Well done to Mary who first mooted the launch of the technology club way
back in 2010
And to Cearbhall who has continued to promote it since the early days.
There was an interesting discussion on finding bus stops, and one person
having a fall, which set off an automatic call to the emergency services
alerting the fall to them.
