Hi Folks, Weather still reasonable for the second half of September,
hopefully it will continue for a while longer.
There were 10 participants for today's tech meeting.
Holiday talk started the meeting with our very own inveterate
traveller Cearbhall packing his bags for a break in Tenerife.
.
Good luck for your holidays from all of us.
Annette is just back from Spain as well after soaking up the sun in 29
degrees of heat and much swimming
Welcome back Annette.
Now for some technology!
Tom wanted to know if anybody present had installed the latest version
of IOS.
Only Stuart had installed ios 16, and found it mostly ok.
He had a few problems with voice over and his Siri voice, but after
powering off and on again , these little bugs disappeared.
Albert gave some sound advice, to hold off installing until ios 16.1
or ios
16.2 become available.
At this time any bugs will have been sorted out and it should be safe
for the rest of us to go ahead and install version 16.
Mary is thinking of Christmas and starting to drop hints that the
iPhone
14 , would be an ideal present.
On the other hand she might wait until the arrival of iPhone 15, which
she thinks will be the first phone to have the new generic charger ,
which is the new law from the European courts of Justice.
Then all phones should be able to be charged up by one generic
charger, and about time too.
Mary had another interesting question. What would happen for instance,
if she was knocked unconscious, and somebody discovered her and wanted to
help.
Mary has in her health app, details about her medical history , like
previous illnesses, her vision problems and all or any allergies.
Also listed in Health are the name of her husband and some family
siblings, which such be contacted in an emergency.
So the question, how does a person who comes across to help ring
those people listed?
The phone has locked and can only be open by facial recognition.
Albert has listened to a podcast to solve this problem,
Which includes editing your Health app, to allow in an emergency that
this data would display on the screen when the phone is locked.
Albert will post AN E-mail to the list later documenting these findings.
Tom , wanted to know if he can use audio description on his Iphone
13. He listens to some television programmes with his wife who is fully
sighted.
Using audio description which he thinks is fantastic and best of all
this feature does not annoy or irritate his wife.
The question is, using the RTE Player on his smart phone to listen to
an RTE programme which has audio description , can he listen to the
programme on his phone using his headphones with audio description??
Nobody is sure about this but if one could it would be great.
If one wants to listen to a programme using audio description, then go
to settings, then accessability then audio description and double tap
here to enable description.
One can leave this setting alone enabled, for instance , you might
like to listen to an Apple conference which has audio description and
then you can enjoy the meeting much more.
Of course you must get the Apple meeting using Safari to listen and find
the correct event.
A discussion regarding Type faces and their usage then began.
People told of their favourite typefaces likd Times Roman, Aeriel,
Samson Bold or the various Gill faces.
Paul complained about creating a Word Document, and saving it in My
Documents.
Then forgetting the name of this Document , he cannot find it, and
tries to find it using the search box.
This brings in Bing, and then the trouble starts.
Paul dislikes the default search engine Bing, but Cearbhall said this
can be removed in the add or remove hardware settings.
Cearbhall suggested using the key strokes ALT F a and letter o.
This according to Stuart does the trick, well done Cearbhall.
Paul yearns for those great old days, when one could open a new blank
word page and using alt plus f, arrow down to the end where one could
find about the last three docs. Created.
This was a great feature in Microsoft XP.
Following this a number of other key strokes were talked about like,
Control +E, TO centre the text. Control + B, to make text Bold,
control+I to make text italic.
Plus control +U, to underline text.
There are also key strokes to enable double or single spacing.
That's All Folks
Paul
