I think we are all asking great questions in an area that we are not experts.
The Foundation is and has studied all the laws and former student needs.
Maybe we can do a Zoom call with our Foundation and have them educate us all.
We just need to define our “Goals”. They can then guide us to what is the best
delivery vehicle and how to maximize our goals.
I think some are confusing “Endowment” with “Memorial”.
I am happy to provide a Zoom data to accomplish the meeting with the
foundation. It can be recorded so that those that can not attend live can
watch it later. We can capture questions before the call to insure all
question are addressed. Then with “Knowledge” we can decide and make our
decisions and contributions.

I personally had another crazy idea. Is it possible that we could establish an
endowment called the “Commanders Fund” or Maybe the “Band Director” fund. It
could be used for anything that the Band Director thought was a good investment
in a BQ. I remember a few years ago when BG Joe bought Revelle’s handlers
boots for his defense of Revelle at a game where the football player almost ran
in to her. I thought that was cool. Give the Director the ability to do a
“GOOD BULL ” when he sees something. Just a thought, don’t know if it can be
done.
Maybe someone can set up a time with the foundation and we can all learn.

I second the motion of it being a Scholarship fund and I also second the motion
of it being a FTAB Class of '77 BQ Scholarship Fund.
I also like Danny's 3.0 gpa as the basement. Not that I would have qualified
my fish year. 8-)
Do we really need any other criteria attached? A mention on one of the threads
mentioned "needs". What will be the criteria for "needs"?
I personally dislike making awards based on "needs" as that criteria is always
way too subjective and difficult to define. I've always preferred specific
delineated benchmarks for qualifying for an award.
How will the individual be selected? All qualifying applicants get their name
dumped in a hat andone pulled?
Since I have a bunch of money burning a hole in my pocket right now due to the
Navy dumping nearly 5 years worth of retired pay into my bank account at one
time, and I'm actually getting paid on time finally, I'll match John's pledge
of $5K. It's only money and my 4 years in the Band were worth every penny that
was spent getting my fuzzy tail and this is a really good cause.
Is this a scholarship that is a "one time" donation, meaning we can only put
money into it when it is created or will it be possible to add additional funds
to the scholarship over time to get it larger than the "minimum" amount? The
answer to that may modify how much people contribute initially.
