Diversity is what keeps systems resilient; able to bounce back from shocks,
according to ecological systems science. It is the vital balance to
efficiency, whose importance is often missed by economists and finance
people. It makes systems sustainable.

Jonathan Kolber was our wonderful Toastmasters. His theme was “water”.
One fascinating story on water was a women drinking 30 to 40 glasses of
water a day and died because she did not have enough sodium in her system.
There were 13 members and one guest; Raymond Marosi.
Speaker #1: Pattie Apple. Objective on mentoring. What can a mentor do
for you? Job situations have mentors. Mentors can also be found in all
parts of life. Passion with history and genealogy. Mentor in Gayla for
association.
Speaker #2: Robin McIntosh. I’m in NOOM, weight loss program. Weight
at 291 pounds. Wanted the whole enchilada. NOOM combines humor and
science. Recording of weight and suggest eating habits. No food is
unacceptable. What is your big picture? Lost 23 pounds. Target weight
of 240 pounds. Call to action
Speaker #3: Susie Minsky. 20 years ago. Diagnosed with cancer twice
and beat it both times. New Orleans to Texas to Colorado. It is so
refreshing we are almost 40 years. Agree to disagree.
Table Topics Master: Katelynn Pau. Excellent questions and here are a
few of those questions and notable answers.
1. Bill Farrand. Q: Age forward or backwards? A: Age diagonally
sideways. Parallel universe where Kennedy was never assassinated and the
twin towers never fell. Problem with going backwards is getting dumber.
No offense to the younger club members.
2. Jennifer Dunne. Q: Let little things get in the way of big things?
A: Like bugs? If it flies and bites it stops everything. Aqueous stream
to kill it.
3. Robin McIntosh. Q: What do you most admire about your parents? (a
side note here, I thought I heard what do you most admire about your
appearance? And I though oh boy, Robin is going to answer my beautiful
Chippendale body). However, my hearing deceived me and that was not how he
answered. A: Father is emotional, water out of the eyes. Mother is the
strong person and decision maker.
4. Pattie Apple. Q: What makes a house a home? Spare bedroom.
Children needs to come home; no harsh judgment. A place to come home to
where everybody is happy to see you. Love and where people look forward to
seeing you.
General Evaluator was our wonderful Revathy Sukumaran
#1 Evaluator Minjun Zhao on Pattie Apple. Like how speech started with a
question. Do you have a mentor? Liked how the speech was delivered.
Structure and pacing was good. Improvement suggestion on having better
descriptions on how manager helped you? What specific things? Elaborate
more. Challenge to add more emotion.
#2 Evaluator Luis Estrada on Robin McIntosh. Excellent with standing to
deliver speech. Hard time spelling NOOM. Great use of the screen.
Challenge to consider using props. Show and represent 22 pounds (and Luis
actually holds up a bag of potatoes that looks like it might be 22 pounds.
Which is ever more impressive because that means Robin lost a lot of
potatoes).
#3 Evaluator Jeff Stoll on Susie Minskey. Led into history. Class
reunion. Different approach, covered a lot of things. Loved dialogue
between characters. Good vocal variety. Closed with reference back to the
reunion.
Revathy evaluated the evaluators. Suggested to Minjun to turn off virtual
background because it was a distraction but it was a great evaluation. On
Luis good call out for props and images. On Jeff, good mention on position
and improvements and to be more expressive.

Congratulations to all the Ribbon winners. It was another fun filled
evening. I enjoyed Jonathan's theme theme on water. I know I should drink
more water myself. And I do feel thirsty sometimes and actually drink
water. And from time to time, I surprise myself and say Wow, that's why
people drink that.
During the break, Robin and I were talking about recaps and how different
people write them. From Robin to Jonathan to Colette. It shows how
different we all are and how great we all are. Diversity is why we're all
so amazing. If I don't say it enough, I appreciate all of you. Until next
