After such test I rebooted Haiku and ran checkfs: it told me nothing
 about freed space.

 The only time checkfs frees up space is hypothetically in the case of a
 power loss or other catastrophic crash that doesn't allow the filesystem
 to unmount cleanly. Under normal circumstances, space is freed
 automatically by filesystem operations, so checkfs won't have anything to
 report.
