** Hastings Rock Radio **

To clarify for future reference, technically this is how things work:

We have a software mixer running on the PC here, the output of which is fed to the Internet streams. There are 3 inputs to the mixer, 2 from Playout one reserved for external source.

The default startup is I kick Playout into automation on one channel, all others are muted.

Remote DJ's generate a separate Internet stream which is fed through to a server here. There is a script running which polls the server every 5 seconds to detect if that stream is active. At the point it is detected, Playout is told to stop automation, the third input is unmuted and that incoming stream is "played" (digitally) into the mixer. When the stream drops, the reverse happens ie. the third mixer input muted, Playout kicked back into life.

There is no silence detection per se, if a DJ put out nothing on the incoming stream, nothing gets played out. It's purely based on the presence (or lack of) the incoming stream.

Does Robojock cut in if there is silence, even if DJ's stream is still
running?

Things are going to get messy if you try that, you can't connect two
sources at the same time so you're down to timing it exactly when
Simon stops his stream, at which point Playout will kick in briefly
till you pick it up again.

Key thing is to let SimonV know so he can announce it (SimonH
suggested some words) & finish cleanly.

I can manage the actual 2 minute silence bit here.

This would mean Simon finishing early (just before the two minute
silence) then an announcement then two minute silence. I am happy to
connect up for a few minutes to do this as long as my encoder remains ‘
no audio for two minutes’, which I think it will and then make an
announcement at the end and disconnect to hand back to Robojock.

This would involve Jon sorting all that out & I think he has enough on
his plate at the moment, unless he’s happy to sort it out of course.
I must admit I didn’t know there was a silence today either.
It’s hard enough trying to remember what day it is!

Perhaps it just needs to play a file with 2 minutes of silence. That
way it will be playing something. If the file can be forced to play at
the start, before any requests, that would do it. Jon will know if this
is possible, I'm sure. It might need an announcement at the start
followed by the two minutes, then something like 'This is Hastings
Rock' to mark the end?

I am sorry this is such short notice but I was only reminded about it
by another radio station this morning.

Simon.

Good idea. Robojock May take some convincing though. Lol. I’m sure
Jon will be able to over come that.
If not schedule a two minute track of silence. That’ll confuse Robo.

Good idea, but won’t Robojock automatically kick in if there’s
silence? I think he’s been programmed to do that this year, just
in case of DJ tech issues.
