I don't oppose this statement being copied into the redriver flow, though
it is unnecessarily restrictive. Can we not compromise and also specify
that in a statistical simulation the impulse response presented to a
downstream model *will *include upstream equalization* if all upstream
models present Init_Returns_Impulse=True?*
While I understand that I/Broadcom (and maybe others) are the "black sheep"
here, at least as regards the current drift of the conversation, the
prescription provided by the statement is virtually useless if
user-controlled "manual" tuning is not feasible. Moreover, certain models
we produce have the manual controls deliberately removed for use in certain
uncontrolled public distributions, where the models are intended for use in
a specific combination with an accompanying Broadcom Tx.

Bob

Walter,
To help this discussion move forward a little faster, I would like to ask
you
to clarify which version of BIRD166 do you think should be passed? Also,
could you repeat both statements you mentioned? I would like all this
information to be in one place, so we can have a clearer picture of what
you are proposing.
Thanks,
Arpad

Arpad,
I would document it by passing bird 166, and reference my statement, and
Ambrish's comments as well.
